Pre-silly season immune boosters

I don’t know about you, but it seems like everyone is working like mad to tie things up before the blissful freedom of summer holidays.

This frenzy of deadlines goes hand in hand with tired bodies, red eyes and nasty head colds that we push through by using copious amounts of coffee and convenience foods.

You might not be able to walk out the office, jump of a plane and go live the island life right now, but you can help your immune system by making time to do even just two of the following:

Eat your fruit and veg

You know it by now: If you eat your fruit and veg, you’ll be getting so many of the nutrients your immune system needs to keep you strong and healthy.

Get your antioxidants

Vitamins A, C and E and a whole lot of other antioxidants are readily available in foods, and the wider your variety, the more you get. When the pressure is on and there’s little time to prepare meals, make a one-pot dish with a whole lot of ingredients

Get moving

You might want to sleep for longer, but getting that hour of exercise in before the work day starts sets the tone for a healthy food intake, better energy levels and more focus throughout the day. Totally worth it, even if it’s just a stroll outdoors with the dogs to take your mind off the tasks for the day.

Cut the excess caffeine and drink water instead

Too much caffeine makes us irritable, jumpy, messes with our sleep cycles and leaves us less able to determine whether we’re physically hungry or not. Have your cup in the morning and then switch to water or Rooibos tea.

If you’re wondering whether these things can really make a difference, the answer is a loud Yebo! Every little bit helps, which means that instead of spending your first few days of leave sick in bed, you can head into summer feeling good.
