Trendy spirulina is worth the superfood buzz that surrounds it.

What is it? It’s a type of blue-green algae that you can find in it’s powdered form. It’s really easy to use and can be added to smoothies, salads, juices or chilled soups such as avo soup topped with cayenne pepper.

Spirulina has a host of nutrients:

  • It’s a source of plant protein – important for muscle development and satiety
  • It’s a source of iron – great for fighting fatigue
  • It’s a source of magnesium – linked to a positive effect on migraines, blood pressure, osteoporosis and PMS
  • It’s a source of antioxidants – these help to minimise cell damage
