Spring food festivals

Jozi, as promised, it’s your turn this September.

Now that the rest have had their turn with food and wine weekends, two of the best food events are heading your way.

Let’s take a look:

First up we have the Good Food and Wine Show.

Whether you’re a foodie, cook, chef, collector of kitchen gadgets of just have a love for all things food, this is the show for you. Shows and demos by international and local chefs will have your taste buds working overtime, you’ll find more than enough to nibble on throughout the day and you’ll pick up on all the latest and greatest food trends. Definitely pace yourself for this one, you’ll want to taste everything!

When: 21 – 24 September

Where: Coca-Cola Dome

Price: Tickets are R75, and while some tastings and demos are free, it’s a good idea to take some cash with you on the day for certain meals, coffees, cookbooks and everything else your heart desires.

Then there’s the Pick n Pay Taste Festival where some of the best restaurants and their talented chefs come together to present their signature dishes as well as small starter-style meals to hungry visitors. Enjoy a few hours working your way through the food and wine stalls, and then do a second round of your favourites.

When: 26-29 September
Where: Montecasino Outdoor Event Area
Price: a standard ticket will set you back R80, and food and drinks are bought with Crowns. Each crown is worth R5 and can be pre-bought or bought at the event.

And…nothing announces summer’s abundance quite like bright red strawberries, so for those of you who didn’t make it to any of the Cape’s festivals, there’s the Strawberry Festival happening this September in George. This farm-style fest will take place on the 21st and 22nd. And if you can’t make it there, you can pop into any KAUAI for an anti-oxidant-rich Strawberry Stinger, Berry Dairy, Yoga Berry or Go-Goji Berry smoothie
