If you’re taking the time to scan the ingredient list of foods you buy, you may come across sugar somewhere in there. But you should also look out for the following, which are just some of the other names for or forms of sugar.
If you’re trying to cut out excess sugar in your diet, try to choose products where the word sugar or one of the below are not one of the first five ingredients listed.
- Cane or corn sugar, Corn syrup (or HFCS – High Fructose Corn Syrup)
- Glucose, dextrose, lactose, fructose, sucrose
- Agave, agave nectar
- Molasses, brown sugar, beet sugar, treacle
- Honey, syrup, invert sugar
- Fruit juice concentrate
