Spring is here and already the days are warmer, the blossoms are blossoming and people are heading outdoors for a braai or two.
This move to brighter days means that it’ll be so much easier to get your daily dose of Vit D, the sunshine vitamin. It’s made when our skin is exposed to sunlight and seeing as SA is blessed with plenty sunshine, just spending a few minutes out of doors will have you sorted.
Just remember to stay out of the sun during the hottest time of the day, and if you’re spending anything more than about 10 minutes basking in the sunshine, grab your trusty sunscreen and a trendy summer hat.
Some Vit D can also be found in dairy foods, fatty fish and eggs, so eating a varied diet definitely helps keep nutrient intake where it should be. Vit D helps to develop strong bones, but recent research has also shown that it has a role to play in heart and brain health.
So is it time yet for a coffee break? Great, we’ll see you outside!
