Kauai, Hawaii’s Island of Discovery

Every Monday, on the day that calls most of us back to our desks, we could all do with a little bit of inspiration so we will be featuring the best of the beaches; from the most popular beaches in the world to the most remote beaches on the planet, from wild beaches in exotic locations to urban beaches built for the need to chill, and from golden sands to grey gravel.

We will be traveling the world wide web in search of a shoreline.

First up, Kauai, Hawaii’s Island of Discovery

Yes, that’s right, Kauai is a real place. This tropical paradise, which sits amidst the sparkling blue waters of the Pacific Ocean, was formed over six million years ago, making it the oldest of the main Hawaiian Islands. A visit to Kauai from South Africa would involve at least R20000 for flights alone and as many as 3 stopovers but it would certainly pay off because Kauai is one of the most beautiful islands in the world, with soaring cliffs, grand canyons, miles of beach, oceans of bay and charming, historical towns. You may decide to stay there forever.
