South Africans are becoming unashamed food market lovers. There’s something wonderful about spending an hour or two tasting, buying and enjoying fresh food with friends and family. For a while now we’ve had another great gem added to the Cape Town fold – the V&A Market on the Wharf. You’ll find a lot of the usual suspects like olive pastes, balsamic reductions and cheeses, but there is also a huge selection of international tastes from the likes of Como Foods, the Royal Bavarian Bakery and the Danish Hotdog Stall as well as some newcomers to the market scene like The Creamery, Angus Meats, a cook book store and a demo kitchen.
Open Wednesday to Sunday, it’s also a convenient place to pop in for a quick snack with offerings ranging from Bite Me’s paninis to crepes and sushi. This fresh food and produce market is here to stay, so go grab a bite and a seat near the upstairs bar from where you can watch the hustle and bustle on the ground floor, or order a coffee and join the foreigners and locals on a bench in the sun. We’ll see you there!
