Wellness with water

And just like that we’re into March!

Which means the Argus is just around the corner. Those of you who participated last year will remember how incredibly hot that day was. Thank goodness for the refreshment stands along the way, and not just for the cyclists but for the cheering crowds lining the route as well!

I often have people asking what they should drink to stay hydrated, and the answer is always good ol’ H2O. Our bodies are roughly 60% water, and it plays a vital role in keeping every system in our bodies functioning as it should. So whether you’re exercising or in a hot environment, drinking water is the best choice because it not only quenches thirst, but also replaces any water your body may be losing. And in this beautiful country of ours, tap water is freely available and in most places, potable. Not a fan of the taste? Add some flavour with mint, lemon slices, strawberries, lime slices or a small amount of fruit juice or cordials.

March is also the month for World Water Day. While many of us can simply open a tap and get water, a large percentage of the population lives in water-scarce environments. We can all play a role in looking out for each other and the planet, so check out this United Nations website for more info.
